The University of Southern California will announce Wednesday that it is receiving its largest donation ever. Alumnus David Dornsife and his wife, Dana, are donating $200-million to the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.
The College will not be limited in how it uses these funds.
Dornsife is a Trustee at USC. He is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Herrick Corporation, a steel fabricating company.
This donation tops the university’s previous record, $175 million, given by film producer George Lucas in 2006. This donation was used to build the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
“Especially in the economic environment we are in, this gift makes a big statement about the importance of the humanities and social sciences in the university, not just the sciences,” USC President C.L. Max Nikias told the L.A. Times. “It’s a very, very transformative gift.”
