The school held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday at the site of their new building on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles.
“It finally happened,” Dr. Darline Robles, former superintendent of the Los Angeles County of Education, said during the ceremony.

In it’s 25th year, LACHSA continues to provide a college-preparatory academic environment combined with a conservatory like atmosphere for visual and performing arts training, according to the LACHSA website.
Funding for the free-tuition public school comes from a combination of the fund raising efforts of the non-profit organization Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Foundation and state funding available to public schools. The student population totals 600 teenagers from diverse backgrounds representing over 80 school districts around the county.
“We’ve been waiting for it for so long,” said Aleah Quinones, a current LACHSA student. “To have a place to call our own is so special.”
