The rallies are intended to show solidarity against cuts to education in Los Angeles over the last several years that have resulted in tuition increases, teacher layoffs, rising book prices and fewer services.
UTLA is being joined by several groups involved including Radical Women and the South Central Neighborhood Council at 5 p.m. for the press conference at city hall.
Julia Wallis, a member of UTLA said that she hopes the protests will bring together teachers, students and parents in support of education.
Wallis also said UTLA is supportive of the union members in Wisconsin and that the planned protests in Los Angeles are against not just what is happening here, but all over the country.
