Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck issued a statement Wednesday in support of the proposed federal ban of magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Beck and several city officials including, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich and City Council President Eric Garcetti, attended a press conference Wednesday morning endorsing the bill.

House Resolution 308 would replace an previous law passed in 1994 that banned high-capacity magazines. The law expired in 2004 and was not renewed by Congress.
Heightened concern about extended ammo magazines comes from their use in recent mass shootings including the 2007 Virgina Tech and the 2009 Fort Hood shootings.
Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said the federal ban is needed to prevent tragedies like the one in Tuscon.
Jared Loughner, the suspected shooter in the January shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, was carrying extended magazines carrying more than 30 rounds per clip.
There are currently 90 co-sponsors of the bill which was introduced on Jan. 18.
