USC football player Armond Armstead was released from hospital Tuesday. His release was announced at about 2:45 p.m.

Coach Lane Kiffin told the press Armstead was admitted into USC University Hospital “to undergo tests for a medical condition.” He said Armstead was undergoing medical tests and evaluations.

The exact cause of Armstead’s hospitalization has not been released as of this time.

Armstead, a 20-year-old senior defensive end, released a statement Tuesday addressing the matter to thank people for their thoughts and prayers.

“I heard from so many people and I really appreciate their support,” he said. “These past few days, I really experienced the power of the Trojan family.”

“I feel good, my spirits are up,” said Armstead. “I’m ready to go back to class.”

Kiffin was happy to see that Armstead was back to good health.

“He is back with us, but he will not resume conditioning workouts until the results of all his medical tests are completed,” Kiffin said. “The doctors and staff at USC University Hospital and our team of doctors and athletic trainers have been exceptional and I want to thank them for that.”

Last year, Armstead tallied 43 tackles and three sacks with the Trojans. He elected to forgo the NFL Draft in December and stay for his final season. He is expected to start at defensive end in 2011.
