UPDATE 11:25 AM
Scott Wolf of the Daily News is reporting that Coach O’Neill plans to release a statement later today saying he made a “poor decision.” Wolf is also reporting that O’Neill will coach tonight’s game against Arizona.

UPDATE 11:10 AM
Kevin O’Neill is quoted in a phone interview with Yahoo! Sports: “I apologize to the university. The last thing I’d ever want to do is cause anyone any embarrassment. I’m confident our team won’t let this become a distraction.”

“I just want to make it clear that this was someone I had a personal history with and not just some random Arizona fan off the street.”

USC is investigating a verbal altercation that involved Trojans basketball coach Kevin O’Neill, his wife, Roberta, and an Arizona fan following the Trojan’s 70-56 win against Cal on Thursday.

According to Fox Sports, O’Neill and his wife were involved in an altercation with an Arizona donor. The two were kicked out of the hotel just hours after USC’s win over Cal.

“We are looking into this and gathering facts. We will determine what appropriate action is necessary,” USC athletic director Pat Haden said in a statement.

O’Neill, 54, is in his second season with USC and served as an interim coach for Arizona for the 2007-2008 season when Lute Olsen stepped away from Arizona for health reasons. A possibility for O’Neill’s frustration with the team is that he should have received the permanent job in Tuscon.

USC will face Arizona today in the Pac-10 semifinals with a possible NCAA tournament berth on the line for the Trojans.
