Japan’s Meteorological Agency has cancelled a tsunami alert for the country’s northeastern coast. There have been no reports of a tsunami arriving to the area.
Japan issued the alert after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the nation’s northeastern coast Monday morning.
The tsunami’s height was expected to be 0.5 meters and was reportedly headed toward the the Miyagi Prefecture, according to the agency.
The agency also reported that the earthquake occurred at 7:24 a.m. Japan time. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was 5.9 kilometers deep.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
