Police in Montebello have shot and killed a kidnapping suspect following a high speed chase. The kidnapping was of a three-year-old girl who was in the backseat of the car.

KTLA reported that the chase began on Monday just before 2 p.m. when police received a call about a possible kidnapping.

Officers pursued a man driving a white, four-door sedan around residential neighborhoods. The suspect reportedly stopped several times, continued driving, and then finally stopped and exited the car near the 5 Freeway and Greenwood Ave.

KTLA reported the man may have been holding something in his right hand. Authorities opened fire on the suspect, killing him.

An unidentified woman ran toward the car, pulling the child from the backseat as authorities opened fire.

The child’s condition, the woman’s identity, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction are unknown.
