Illinois State hadn’t lost a single home game this season, that is, until today.
The Women of Troy gave the Redbirds more than they could handle, clobbering their opponents 63-36 in the semifinals of the WNIT. It was USC’s fourth straight win on the road.
The Women of Troy opened the game with a 16-1 lead and held Illinois State to just 14 points in the second half.
Guard Jackie Gemelos led USC with 15 points, while guard Ashley Corral added another 14. Forward Christina Marinacci boasted a team-high 13 rebounds.
USC outrebounded Illinois State 47-29 and boasted a shooting percentage of 46 percent, compared to 36 percent for the Redbirds.
The Women of Troy will need one more road victory to earn the WNIT championship. They will face off against Toledo at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
