While the practice of politics is considered an “art” by some, artistic expression and political opinion rarely intersect. However, one organization at USC is giving students the chance to combine both.
The Political Student Assembly will host “Designated Demonstration Area: A Student Exhibition of Political Art” Monday and Tuesday to provide a space for students to showcase their views on American politics through art.
Students are encouraged to draw cartoons, paint caricatures and create sculptures reflecting their views on an issue of their choosing. Others could write a message on a whiteboard open to all students displayed in the VKC courtyard.
Student pieces were displayed alongside photographs of historical protests and notable political events in US history.
Student work is being judged by a panel of student, faculty and staff judges. Participants could win a variety of prizes from gift certificates at local restaurants to Disneyland tickets.
All entries are required to follow USC’s Student Conduct Code and Policy on Free Expression and Dissent.
