Orange County works to ban sex offenders from parks

The Orange County district attorney wants a new law keeping registered sex offenders from public places

Irvine Regional Park is a restricted place listed in the new sex offender law (irvineparkrailroad.com).

UPDATED: The Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the ordinance Tuesday night.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas’ new proposed plan would keep registered sex offenders from entering the county’s parks, which includes beaches, harbors, and parks.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors will review the law Tuesday.

Sex offenders who enter a park would face six months in jail or a $500 fine.

A 2006 law already prohibits sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of any school or park in California.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors is planning to adopt an ordinance Tuesday that would bar registered sex offenders from entering the county’s parks — including its beaches, wilderness areas and harbors.

Some of the law’s restricted places are Irvine Regional Park, Newport Harbor, Salt Creek Beach Park, Dana Point Harbor, Mile Square Regional Park and the Orange County Zoo.
