Los Angeles Dodger owners Frank and Jamie McCourt’s divorce is official today. The closely followed divorce has been an ugly public spectacle as people wonder what will be the fate of the Dodgers.
Today’s court hearing, however, did not address any division of assets – including the ownership of the Dodgers. It was a nominal change, moving the Jamie’s marital status from “separated” to “divorced”, reports the Huffington Post. Frank’s status had been changed to divorced in October.
The McCourts were presented with a settlement agreement last week, but they have until the end of November to accept or reject the terms, reports the Huffington Post.
Much of the courtroom fighting has revolved around a post-nuptial agreement. The agreement gives Frank full ownership of the Dodgers. Jamie argues the Post-nuptial isn’t valid because she was not properly advised on the terms before signing, reports the Huffington Post.
When the McCourts took over the Dodgers from Fox Entertainment Group Inc. in 2004, it was valued at $421 million. Today the team is worth $727 million. Jamie testified that the idea that she would willingly forfeit all rights to such a lucrative franchise was “preposterous”, reports Bloomberg Businessweek.
