Customers look forward to Small Business Saturday

Participating consumers will receive a $25 credit towards their American Express account.

American Express is sponsoring the first annual Small Business Saturday.

There’s black Friday, Cyber Monday and now there’s Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is a new event sponsored by American Express.  The credit card company is offering anyone who spends at least $25 at a small business a $25 credit to their account.

This small businses consultant doesn't know how well Small Business Saturday will work.

Those who want to receive the $25 credit must enroll online at http://www.facebook.com/OPEN.

American Express is emphasizing that all different types of small businesses count towards the credit, not just stores that sell holiday gifts.  However, participating businesses must have a website or Facebook page and must earn less than $10 million in revenue each year.

More than a dozen companies are sponsoring the event, including Facebook and Yelp.  Facebook has set up a page to help promote Small Business Saturday.

American Express is planning to make this an annual event.
