Bears fan falls to death at Soldier Field

A Bears fan's death at Soldier Field was ruled an accident.

An autopsy Monday showed that Stewart Haverty, 23, died of multiple injuries after falling from a stadium concourse during Sunday’s Bears-Eagles game.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has ruled the death was an accident and not a suicide.

Witnesses told police they saw Haverty run and jump over a 3-foot barrier and thought he was going for a cigarette and was unaware of the drop.

Police say the drop was more than 35 feet from a Soldier Field concourse onto the roof of a stadium storage building.

This is the second death of its kind in a week as an infant died by falling from a suite at the Staples Center last Sunday.

A Soldier Field spokesperson says the death is the first of its kind since the completion of a major renovation in 2003 of the 63,500-seat stadium.
