School held hostage

An armed student took over a classroom in Wisconsin

An armed student took over a classroom today and claimed 23 students and 1 teacher as hostages in Eastern Wisconsin.

According to County Emergency Management officials, a Marinette High School Administrator called police around 3 p.m. saying a student took over a classroom, taking hostages as well.

No injuries have been reported.

Choral teacher Bonita Weydt said she was talking with a teacher in another classroom after school, which lets out about 3:10 p.m., when principal Corry Lambie came in.

“I said, ‘Corry, what’s going on?’ and he said, `Get out of the building,”’ Weydt said.

Marinette is about 50 miles north of Green Bay near the border with Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The school enrolls around 800 students a year, according to the school’s website.
