Trojans stand out
The Trojans may be coming off a disappointing year after finishing with a 9-4 record, but with a new season still a few months away, the team already has reasons to be optimistic.
Phil Steele, known because of his preseason football magazine, Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, has recently released his “2010 Preseason Awards,” and his selections include a number of USC players.
Steele has chosen four All-Pac-10 teams on both offense and defense. His All-American team had four offensive teams and defensive teams, as well as four special teams.
Two Trojans were granted All-American status. C Kristofer O’Dowd made the first offensive team, and DT Jurrell Casey was selected as a member of the second team on defense.
In terms of the Pac-10, Steele’s first team on offense is highlighted by three Trojans- O’Dowd, WR Ronald Johnson and OG Butch Lewis. OT Tyron Smith made the second team. QB Matt Barkley and RB Allen Bradford made the 3rd team, while RB Stanley Havili made the 4th team. Johnson made the 4th team as well, this time as a KR.
The defensive standouts include first team member DT Jurrell Casey and two second team selections, LB Chris Galippo and LB Michael Morgan. DT Nick Perry, LB Malcolm Smith, and CB TJ Bryant were all chosen to be on the third team, while LB Devon Kennard made the fourth.
